One Day One Story 2023 of Pratham Books at Advesa Trust's Alphonsa Library

The Annual Pratham Books NGO storytelling event of OneDayOneStory2023 was conducted at Alphonsa Library of Advesa Trust on October 21st inside the Jeevodaya Hospice campus. The picture books selected for the storytelling event were Hakeem’s Hiccups by Sadaf Siddique and Hello Sun by Rajiv Eipe.

Hakeem’s Hiccups is about Hakeem, a medicine seller selling powders and potions in the busy marketplace. During the Ramzan season, he is fasting and cannot drink water. So, he gets hiccups. The patients who visit him ask him to hold his nose and pull his ears. Later in the day, each of his patients comes with a special dish to treat his hiccups. They all then gather at Hakeem’s home to break the fast. After eating all the dishes, Hakeem lets out a loud belch instead of a hiccup.

Hello Sun is about a boy who visits the forest area around his house when the sun comes up. There he meets the millipede, touch-me-not, moth, barbet, spider, snail, frog, and finally hugs his father’s big boots.

Storyteller Anitha Selvanathan told both these two stories to the 26 kids who attended the event. One of the kids, Vishnu Prasad retold the Hakeem’s Hiccups story in his own words. Kids later split into groups and drew pictures from both the books and won prizes. Librarian Sushma coordinated the event.

Advesa Trust conducts World Read Aloud Day on 10th March 2012

On the evening of 10th March, around 25 kids gathered at Advesa Trust rural library for kids to read aloud Pratham Books stories. Five children read out stories. Swaathi read aloud the "Yakity Yak" story. Santhosh Kumar read "En Udal Pesuvathai Kelungal" Tamil story. Kavitha read "Nilaavum Thopiyum" Tamil Story. Charumathy read "Kazhugum Aanthaiyum" Tamil Story. Lokesh read "Noyutra Parunthu" Tamil story. Click here for event photos.

Pratham Books Champion Anitha Jebaraj coordinated the event. She gave inputs on how kids can improve their pronunciation, raise their reading volume/voice, and speak proper English or proper Tamil and not Tanglish!
